Nigerian Air Force Ranks and Symbols/Insignia

The Nigerian Air Force ranks and symbols/insignia can be explained as the ranks and badge that represents the ranks. The ranks in the Nigerian Air Force is the same as the ranks in the Nigerian Navy and the ranks Nigerian Army. Since this three branches of the Nigerian military works together as one, they made their ranks equivalent to each other though they are not having the same name and symbols.

The ranks in the Nigerian Air Force are also divided into two different categories.

The Commissioned Officers and The Non Commissioned Officers.

Those who joined the Nigerian Air Force through the Nigerian Defence Academy spends a period of 5 years before they are commissioned into the Nigerian Air Force are called Commissioned Officers, or those who joined the Nigerian Air Force as a graduate and spend about six months during their training before they are commissioned into the Nigerian Air Force.

Graduates joining the Nigerian Air Force join through the Nigerian Air Force DSSC. The Nigerian Air Force DSSC means Direct Short Service Commission. Before you can be able to join Nigerian Air Force DSSC, you must Posses HND or B.Ss.

The Non Commissioned Officers are those who joined the Nigerian Air Force recruitment with SSCE. They spend about 6 months in their training before they become an Airman in the Nigerian Air Force. Their own recruitment is called Nigerian Air Force BMTC recruitment.

There are few facts you need to know. The DSSC or Regular Officers from the Nigerian Defence Academy are paid higher than the Nigerian Air Force BMTC recruitment. We previously wrote an article on the Nigerian Air Force salary according to ranks.

Air Force Commissioned Officers: 

  • Pilot Officer.
  • Flying Officer.
  • Flight Lieutenant.

  • Air Marshal.
  • Air Chief Marshal.
